Questions regarding Lymphatic Drainage

Q 1: What is lymphatic drainage therapy?
A 1: Lymphatic drainage is a gentle touch therapy that promotes heath by stimulating your lymph and body fluids.
Q 2: What is the lymph system?
A 2: The lymph system is a vast network of vessels that serves almost every cell in your body. The lymph clean us the waste products that are made every day by your cells. Lymph is a fluid that carries immune cells that fight viruses, cancer and bacteria. The fluid passes through nodes that filter the fluid of toxins and waste products. These nodes produce new immune cells. When you feel "swollen glands" you know that your lymph nodes are working extra hard to keep you healthy.
Q 3: What is a treatment session like?
A 3: Lymphatic massage uses light, rhythmic touch; almost a brushing type of feeling. Each session lasts an hour. The therapist will use flat hands and finger pads to gently move the lymph. It is much lighter and slower than a regular massage. It is not painful.
Q 4: How many sessions will I need?
A 4: The number of sessions needed depends on a number of things, including but not limited to, how long you have had the problem, what is the cause of the problem and how well your body responds to the treatments. The therapist will discuss this with you in detail.
Q 5: Is lymphatic drainage an advanced technique?
A 5: Yes. It requires training specific to the lymph system and is an advanced certification.
Q 6: Is lymphatic drainage therapy safe?
A 6: Lymphatic drainage therapy is safe for most people. You will be asked to fill out a medical history form prior to your first treatment. Please be ready to list all medicines, recent surgeries or other pertinent medical conditions you may have. This ensures that the treatment you receive is appropriate and safe. Your physician may be contacted to ensure that this treatment is appropriate for you.
Q 7: What should I wear during the massage?
A 7: The therapist will leave the room to allow you privacy to undress and to get on the table. Many clients wear just their underclothing. You may undress down to what you are comfortable wearing. You will be COVERED at all times with a sheet and blanket during the entire session to ensure your privacy.
Q 8: Do I need an appointment?
A 8: Yes. An appointment is needed for all services. Please call 508-965-3974 to schedule.
Q 9: What if I need to change my appointment?
A 9: Appointments can be changed if more than 24-hours notice is given. Unfortunately, if you cancel or are a no-show for your appointment with LESS than 24-hours notice you will be charged for your treatment. Our voice mail is accessible 24 hours a day, (508) 965-3974. Please call as soon as you know you have an appointment conflict.
